I am the lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, the house of bondage: You shall have no other gods beside me.
You shall not make for yourself a sculptured image...
You shall not swear falsely by the name of the Lord your God...
Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy...
Honor your father and your mother...
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet (desire)...anything that is your neighbor's.
These commandments became them important because while they were traveling in the desert, when they got lost, Moses climed on the top of Mount Sinai and when he came back he was holding 2 stone tablets which nad the 10 cammandments, he brought the stones down after God spoke to him. They the 10 cammandments became the basis for the laws of the Israelites, and later became an important part of the moral and ethical traditions od Western civilization.
